Paige Van Doren is a contemporary jeweler, metalsmith and educator hailing from Portland, Oregon. Her practice is guided by intuition and an investment in understanding how the body allows us to make sense of our environment and personal landscape. Forging and its poetics play an important role in Van Doren’s current work. Forging is approached as a dance between body and mind; hand to hammer, hammer to steel, steel to anvil, anvil to ground, ground to feet. She draws through the material with an outcome in mind, as well as a commitment to responding to the material. Van Doren received her BFA in Metalsmithing and Jewelry from the University of Oregon and her MFA in Metal at the State University of New York (SUNY) at New Paltz. She will be serving as a full-time visiting lecturer at SUNY New Paltz for the 2024-25 academic year. Van Doren was the recipient of Ethical Metalsmiths So Fresh So Clean 2020 Emerging Artist award, and she has shown work at New York City Jewelry Week and various national exhibitions.
